The Royal Bank of Scotland Coin & Note Collection

Royal Bank of Scotland is the central bank for Scotland and issues all the coins and notes that are no less then any British one in craft and history. Here are some interesting coin and note ideas being produced by RBS.

Royal Bank of Scotland has been issuing the currency notes for more then a century now. Historically printing of notes was allowed to the provincial banks of Great Britain as well. One can find many interesting the bank notes that are now considered as antiques from various provinces including Scotland, Wales, and Ireland too. The Bank of England took the power of printing of notes from the other provinces late on, but the RBS is still printing the notes today. These days Bank of Scotland is sharing the printing of notes with the Clydesdale Bank too.

The RBS notes are not only acceptable inside Scotland, but in other provinces of United Kingdom as well. The only difference between is that unlike the GBP, this currency is not having the status of royal promissory note. One interesting aspect of the status of promissory note status in Scotland is that the currency has no legal tender value in there, not even the GBP.

The Ilay Note Series

This hundred pound RBS note series was issued to show respect for the Lord Ilay. The note shares the painting of Lord Ilay, the great Scottish leader who passed away in 1761. This painting was done in 1744, and is masterpiece of the famous artist A. Ramsay.

The other side of the note has St. Laurence Mansion; this building was the first head quarter for the bank in 1774. The note also has hints of the ceilings of the headquarter building as well. This painting is master piece of famous Scottish painter Dick Peddie.
